Hi friends,

I went to the link above called "See the Symptoms Page!" and found that hyperreflexia was not listed. Furthermore, I went to another site which lists symptoms of Spino cerebellar ataxia and it is listed.

I have a question to you all.. I am new to the idea that this could be what is wrong with me.... I have been to doctor after doctor for the last 5 years. My severe symptoms started as a tremor and with that came the slurred speech.... The first flares only lasted a week or so. Balance and walking

Hi folks,

As my symptoms progress, the one symptom that is really adversely affecting me at this time is walking. If I use only my cane, I must hang to someone's arm or use the wall and door frames or anything that is within reach (hopefully stable).

For most walking around the house, I use my rollator. It's use is very helpful. Once I get into my van, I have no trouble driving, thank goodness. I even have clearance from the Ministry of Transportation to drive...

Leaning

I noticed that I'm leaning to the right when I sit in a chair, when I eat, when I type messages on a Blackberry, anytime... When I fall (unfortunately, too often), it tends to be to the right. Does anyone else have a "listing" tendency?

My sister made a comment to me the other day. She was told that most people with ataxia have scoliosis (curvature of the spine), and or high arches. Now, my sister and I both have scoliosis, tho she has it much more severe. And my arches are pretty much normal, I think.

Cold hands and feet

I searched the forum for references to cold hands. I could only find one reference back in '04. So is anyone experiencing cold extremeties -- especially hands and/or feet? Right now, while typing this, my hands are extremely cold. Is anyone else experiencing this?

A good friend of mine has been diagnosed with hereditary ataxia of the cerebellum. At first they thought it was Parkinson's (which I have) but now they think the former. Is there anything that can be done about aspiration of saliva? She has that really hollow cough way deep in her lungs from aspiration. I have the same problem with Gerd...caused by a hiatal hernia but that will be repaired next month so should solve my problem. What can...

You will find this query in our everyday chat, but in the event you have not seen it there, I would like to pose this query here as well..........

If you are or were peri-menopausal, how did it affect your disorder if at all? Besides the normal things we endure, I find I'm more anxious about my new & old symptoms & would like Len to be w/ me in non-familiar environments. (For clarification sake: now more than before.)

I use a cane when I am outside walking and going to errands. However, I started going to a gym and walking on the treadmill. I hold onto the bars and there is a wire hooked to me so that if I fall the machine will stop and an alarm will sound. I can do this for 30 minutes but I cannot be on my feet for 30 minutes or my back is killing me. I am doing this because I hope to ward off a wheelchair and strengthen my legs.

Can any of you do this?

does anyone have memory problems? like forgetting alot cant control emotions? repeat the same stuff over and over. repeat things that happened a month ago and it sounds like it happened yesturday? is this normal with this disease? just wondering..

Hi, folks.....I haven't posted in such a long time, but I have "lurked" quite a bit.

Has anyone else noticed this strange symptom? My sister, who is 3 1/2 years older, and that much further along than me, started to have these high fevers periodically. They last all night, and leave her flat for a couple of days. Mine have been around since this past July, but they are lower grade temps and last for days or weeks. My normal temp is low, around 96.6 to 97.3 or so....my...

As noted in a previous post, I seem to find myself at some sort of decline, but not sure why. It maybe stress related, but I'm not sure........

Folks,

This subject was prodded by Earl's query. There are 12 of us that are in constant contact........and just w/ that mere dozen I found a common thread. Three of the women (including me) found our 1st symptoms began when we were pregnant.

What was going on in your life when you noticed your 1st symptom? I am also curious if you were a drinker or on any drugs at the time?

My son has discovered a new symptom. This may only be a symptom for me, or there may be some others out there with the same problem.
Brenden (9) and I were out doing some errands the other day, and after a couple of hours-- that should have taken me about 30 minutes, he finally had enough and asked me-quite seriously-if part of my disability was not knowing when to stop talking.
